The world of gambling has received a new spin in the form of mobile gambling. While the last few years were dominated by online casinos, Internet's poker rooms and online bookmakers the near future belongs to mobile phones. Though at the moment the technology and monetary systems are not yet as prepared as online casinos they are managing to draw more then twenty million users in Europe alone. In the following article I would define mobile gambling in all of its forms and all the latest news regarding mobile gambling.

In the early days, when the common use of mobile phones had only begun, the only gambling related use they had was to phone bookies. From anywhere in the world, where a cellular network was present, any gambler could phone his bookmaker with his new bets. The main problem was payment methods, a problem set straight by credit cards, but not all gamblers were pleased to give their personal details over unsecured lines.

The change came in the form of the 2G cellular phones. These were equipped with WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). It was the first foothold of mobile gambling. But the technology wasn't yet sophisticated enough to present a real option for gamblers. The next jump came in the form of Java applications. With this easy programming language regular gambling games, such as poker, bingo and roulette, were inserted to mobile phones.

Now the average gambler could play his favorite games, but that was not enough since no real gambling was available. At these days M-Commerce wasn't even a term in use beside in big cellular companies who dreamt upon it. Develop of 3G mobile phones accelerated mainly due to young users and the gamblers. These two groups of consumer were both eager to a new brand of technology which will liberate them from the old cellular phones.

The young user demanded more audio and graphic quality, which later on benefited the gamblers' group as well. The gamblers on the other hand were in need for a highly evolved cellular-encryption, new games' applications and more importantly – new financial ways of transmitting money with their mobiles phones.
